# Fix a flagged format

Find out why a format was flagged, then fix it by hand or build it again.

Read the note on a flagged format, then fix the file or build it again.

> **Before you start:**
>
> - Anyone in your organisation can read flags. You need the **Editor** or **Owner** role to build a format again with **Try again**.
> - In the web app a format's chip says **To check**, and Home lists them in the **Needs a look** card. The InDesign, Figma and Canva apps say **Needs a look**.
> - A flag stays on the format. Mestra doesn't offer a way to dismiss it yet. You fix the cause instead.

1. In the web app, open **Work** > **Home**. In the **Needs a look** card, select **Open** next to the format. Or open **Work** > **Runs**, open the run, and find the format marked **To check**.
2. Read the notes on the format card. They are in plain words, for example "Some text doesn't fit" or "Something sits outside the frame".
3. In the InDesign, Figma or Canva app, select **Show review notes ({n})** under the format. The list shows each issue with a severity of **Minor**, **Medium** or **Major**. Mestra applies only Medium and Major fixes by itself. The heading **Amended** means it changed the format for you.
4. Choose how to fix it:
   - **Fix it by hand.** In InDesign, select **Open in InDesign**. In Figma, find the frame in the section named for the brand, to the right of the master. In Canva, open the built page.
   - **Build it again.** If the format **Failed**, or its note says **Review didn't complete**, select **Try again** under it. Other flags have no **Try again**, so fix the file by hand. The web app has no **Try again**. Use it in the InDesign, Figma or Canva app.
5. Check the result. After **Try again**, the format's status updates. If the notes are gone, it's done.

Try again on a format that's already built is free three times in the same run. From the fourth, each try that builds counts as one more format. A failed format wasn't counted, so its first successful try counts once.

## If something goes wrong

| No **Try again** button in the web app                                             | **Try again** lives in the design apps. Use it there.                                                            |
| "Your role (viewer) can't start runs."                                             | Ask an owner for the Editor role.                                                                                |
| **Failed** with "No layout worked for this size."                                  | Select **Try again**. If it keeps failing, check the format's size and rules, or email <support@withmestra.com>. |
| **Failed** with "The layout took too long." or "The layout service had a problem." | Select **Try again**.                                                                                            |
| "Review didn't complete"                                                           | Select **Try again** to run the review again.                                                                    |
