# Connect Canva

Add the Mestra app to Canva and link your Canva team to your Mestra organisation.

The Mestra app runs in the Canva design editor. An owner links your Canva team once. Then each person can sign in.

In the app, brands are called **Centres** and flagged formats are marked **Needs a look**. On the web they are **Brands** and **To check**. They are the same things.

## Requirements

One Canva team links to one Mestra organisation.

## Install

The app isn't in the Canva marketplace yet. It is shared with your team as a team preview.

1. Email <support@withmestra.com> with your Canva team details. We add your team to the preview.
2. Once we confirm, open the **Mestra** app in Canva.

## Sign in

Canva uses two steps. The first is once per team. The second is for each person.

**Link the team (an owner, once)**

1. In the Mestra app in Canva, click **Link to Mestra**.
2. Your browser opens the **Link Canva to Mestra** page. An owner of your organisation clicks **Link**.
3. The page shows **Canva linked**. Go back to Canva and click **Check again**.

Until then, the app shows "This Canva team isn't linked to Mestra yet. An organisation owner can link it." Anyone who isn't an owner sees "Only an organisation owner can link Canva."

**Sign in (each person)**

Click **Sign in** in the app so your runs carry your name. Each new sign-in emails you with a **Not you? Sign it out** link.

## Permissions

The app asks Canva for three permissions. All three are required.

| `canva:design:content:read`  | Read the content of your designs       |
| `canva:design:content:write` | Add and change content in your designs |
| `canva:asset:private:read`   | Read your private assets               |

Owners can see and sign out every Canva sign-in, and **Unlink** a Canva team, on the **Apps** page in the web app. Everyone else sees only their own.

## Updating

There is no update button in the app. We'll email owners when a new version is available.

## Getting help

In the Canva app, select **Get help** to open these docs. The Canva app uses US spelling, so some labels read differently from the web app.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom                                            | Cause                                      | Fix                                                                |
| -------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| "This Canva team isn't linked to Mestra yet."      | No owner has linked the team.              | Ask an owner to click **Link to Mestra**.                          |
| "Only an organisation owner can link Canva."       | You aren't an owner.                       | Ask an owner to do the link step.                                  |
| The app doesn't show the link after you approve it | Canva hasn't checked yet.                  | Go back to Canva and click **Check again**.                        |
| The link has expired                               | The link step wasn't finished in time.     | Start again from **Link to Mestra** in the app.                    |
| You need to link a different Canva team            | Each Canva team links to one organisation. | An owner clicks **Unlink** on the **Apps** page, then links again. |
